Celtic Fox

118 SW Eighth Ave., Topeka, KS, 66603
(785) 235-2138

"Fox Facts" The Fox's were known as "the beer makers" in Ireland. Legend has it that one of our ancestors got caught "borrowing" a horse named Lucky who was hooked up to a wagonload of beer. He was forced to work off the debt owed by working in the brewery were he then mastered the art of brewing ale. Celtic or Sell-tic? It's Celtic (Kel-tic). The 'c' is pronounced like a 'k'. The basketball team is the only thing called the Celtics (sell-tics). Take a close look at the various murals throughout the pub. Craftily incorporated into the rocks of walls and windows of buildings are images of our family members that have passed away. In each mural somewhere is a foxtail, can you find them all? The large stone and brink arch between the bar and the side dining room was constructed to resemble the St. James Gate at the Guinness Brewery. On each side of the arch you will find an authentic Blarney Stone taken from Blarney Ireland, near the castle. According to legend, kissing the stones endows the kisser with the gift of gab. The wee little people believe that if a pretty person rubs the stones properly their wish will be granted. The Celtic Fox is located in a very old and historic building that was built in the mid 1800's. The third floor was the first location for the Washburn University Law School.
