Second Acts
Composers throughout history have reinvented themselves, the musical forms they inherit, and the roles of their instruments. A prime example is Franz Liszt, whose personal journey included a flamboyant lifestyle as a composer/performer and a solitary existence in a monastery near Rome, and whose works stretched the concept of the organ and its music in the 19th century. Charles Ives (insurance executive) and Naji Hakim (trained as an engineer) are but two examples closer to our own time. This exciting concert will explore "second acts" of these and other organ composers of many eras and may inspire you to create your own personal transformation!
