The Bob James Jazz Festival is an opportunity to celebrate the music of Grammy-winning jazz pianist Bob James, celebrate and support Marshall's tradition of cultivating musical talent and enjoy a day of great jazz! The second annual Bob James Jazz Festival will take place Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Missouri Valley College and Bueker Middle School in Marshall.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a master class led by Bob James followed by a jazz performance clinic coordinated by top Kansas City music educator Clarence Smith, who's also from Marshall. The evening concert will feature a brief set by the Clinic All-Stars, clinic students who show us what they learned during the day. They will be followed by Sedville Jazz Company from Sedalia, Mo., the Michael Pagan Trio from Kansas City, and Smith & Athon, a quintet from KC. Smith & Athon will be joined by special guest Bob James, who promises to perform several of his most popular numbers.
