Taponazos

Tapas - In the beginning. Tapas is a daily event in the life of the Spanish Culture. In Spanish, the word tapa, or the verb tapar, means "to cover". The origins of the modern day tapas are not truly known, but there is one explanation that we like. At the end of the day, farmers and laborers would often go to local "tascas" for a well earned drink on top of which they would find a slice of bread to protect it from flies. Little by little the innkeeper would place things on top of the bread, such as cured meats and sausages, as an accompanying snack. The edible cover was the start of the tapas as we know them today.
